SELECTION GUIDE

Key Factors When Choosing Windshield Adhesive

Choosing the correct PU windshield adhesive affects installation efficiency, bonding performance and long-term reliability. Compare products according to these five key factors.

01

Required Drive-Away Time

Fast-repair shops and high-volume installers should select a product with a shorter safe drive-away time. PA-1601F and PA-601F are designed for one-hour applications, while standard products such as PA-1453 provide a four-hour option.

02

Vehicle Type and Glass Size

Large bus and truck windshields require stronger sag resistance than standard passenger-car glass. Rail transit and enclosed applications may place greater importance on odor and VOC levels, while specialty vehicles often require adhesion to multiple substrates.

03

Sag Resistance

A non-sagging adhesive helps maintain the correct bead shape on vertical glass. PA-160N and PA-160F are recommended for large vertical windshields where higher sag resistance is required.

04

Strength and Flexibility

Windshield adhesive must provide sufficient bonding strength while remaining flexible enough to accommodate vibration, body movement and temperature changes. Compare tensile strength, elongation and modulus according to the vehicle and project requirements.

05

Temperature and Working Conditions

Most CHEMPU models support service temperatures from −40°C to +90°C. PA-1452 supports a service range from −30°C to +80°C. Actual curing and drive-away times may vary with temperature, humidity and installation conditions.

Not sure which to choose?

Tell us your vehicle type, glass dimensions, cure speed requirement and substrates — we will recommend the best option for your project.

⚠️ Note: Primerless does not mean surface preparation can be skipped. Glass and bonding surfaces must still be cleaned and prepared according to the product technical data sheet. Always confirm substrate compatibility before installation.

PRIMERLESS vs. PRIMER

Primerless vs. Primer Windshield Adhesive: Which Should You Choose?

Most CHEMPU PA series products are primerless — suitable for cleaned and approved substrates without a separate primer step. Here is a comparison to help you decide.

Comparison✅ Primerless Windshield AdhesivePrimer-Based Windshield Adhesive
Application ProcessFewer preparation steps on approved substratesRequires compatible primer application
Installation EfficiencySuitable for fast and high-volume installationAdditional primer drying time is required
Process ConsistencyReduces variation caused by incorrect primer applicationPerformance depends on correct primer selection and use
Substrate RequirementsDesigned for specified clean and compatible substratesSuitable when the substrate or system requires primer

⚠️ Important: Primerless does not mean surface preparation can be skipped. Glass and bonding surfaces must still be cleaned and prepared according to the product TDS. Always confirm substrate compatibility before installation.
HOW TO CHOOSE — FAQ

How to Choose Windshield Adhesive: Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common windshield adhesive selection questions from professional installers and procurement teams.

How to choose windshield adhesive for different vehicles?
Choose based on vehicle type, glass size, required drive-away time, substrate, and working temperature. PA-1453 suits most passenger cars (4-hour cure), PA-1601F for fast-repair shops (1-hour cure), PA-160N/PA-160F for buses and trucks (ultra no sag), and PA-145N for rail transit (zero VOC).
What is the difference between primerless and primer windshield adhesive?
Primerless windshield adhesives bond directly to cleaned, approved substrates without a separate primer step, improving efficiency and reducing process variation. Primer-based products require an additional primer application and drying step, and are used for special substrates or manufacturer-specified systems.
Which windshield adhesive has the fastest cure time?
PA-1601F and PA-601F offer a 1-hour safe drive-away time, making them the fastest-curing options in the CHEMPU PA series. They are recommended for fast-repair chains and high-volume 4S dealerships.
How to choose windshield adhesive for bus and truck applications?
For large commercial vehicle glass, PA-160N and PA-160F are recommended due to their ultra no sag performance and high tensile strength (≥7.5 MPa), which helps maintain the correct bead shape on large vertical windshields.
What windshield adhesive is suitable for rail transit and enclosed spaces?
PA-145N is formulated with zero VOC and odorless properties, making it the preferred choice for rail transit, metro vehicles, high-speed trains, and any enclosed environment where air quality and occupant comfort are critical.
Can windshield adhesive be used on multiple substrates?
PA-1453, PA-1451, PA-160N and PA-160F are all primerless and designed for use on glass, aluminum, steel, and FRP substrates when properly cleaned. Always confirm substrate compatibility according to the product TDS before installation.
What is the service temperature range for CHEMPU windshield adhesives?
Most CHEMPU PA series products support a service temperature range of −40°C to +90°C. PA-1452 has a narrower range of −30°C to +80°C, suitable for moderate-climate markets.
